Designer Collection

The Roots Living Designer collection consists of rugs designed by Finnish designers. The rugs combine Finnish design, timeless style, and traditional Indian craftsmanship.

Designer rugs – quality design and craftsmanship

The Roots Living Designer Collection was created in collaboration with Finnish designers. The collaboration showcases Finnish design combined with Indian craftsmanship.

Alongside Roots Living’s solid-coloured rugs, the aim was to introduce timeless, high-quality rugs that serve as eye-catching focal points and create atmosphere. The collaboration with the designers was guided by a shared interest in creating timeless design products that complement interiors with architectural and aesthetic subtlety. The patterns and colours of the rugs in the Designer Collection have been designed to stand the test of time.

The archipelago landscape as a source of inspiration

Joanna Laajisto has designed two rugs for the collection. Both the Rock wool rug and the Wicker hemp rug draw inspiration from the Baltic Sea archipelago. The form of the Rock rug was intended to be both organic and refined. The rug’s pattern is inspired by the beautiful striations of coastal cliffs, which are accentuated by the varying pile heights. The pattern was created based on a hand-drawn design by Laajisto. The Rock rug is available in two colours: light greyand grey-green.

The design of the Wicker hemp rug began with hemp as a material. In the rug’s form, Laajisto aimed for a look that was both rugged and decorative. Summer life in the archipelago and bohemian luxury served as the initial inspiration for the design.

Timeless choices guided the design. “I hope that the products will not be tied to a particular era, but will be so-called timeless. In the best-case scenario, this way a product can pass from one generation to the next,” Joanna Laajisto says. Discover the Wicker rug in more detail here.

Quality craftsmanship brings the rug patterns to life

Ulla Koskinen's hand-drawn patterns are beautifully repeated in her hand-knotted Pilari and Ketju rugs. “The marks left by the weavers' hands add a human and charming touch to the rugs, as each piece, though similar to the others, is unique,” Ulla Koskinen explains. The Pilari and Ketju rugs add a beautiful visual element to interiors and serve to soften the space.

Materials were a key starting point in Ulla Koskinen's design. The sensations conveyed through touch are important to her, and the feel of natural materials was enhanced with timeless colors and variations in pile height. Wool and bamboo viscose combine to create a wonderfully soft surface for the rugs. In addition, a stunning and rustic hemp version of the Pilari rug is available.

Interior designers consider rugs one of the most important elements in interior design

Antti Rouhunkoski and Timo Mikkonen are known for their high-quality interior design and POIAT furniture. Their shared values and timeless aesthetic with Roots Living provided a natural starting point for their collaboration. Both designers created rug designs for the Designer collection.

“Large, high-quality rugs are one of the most important elements in creating a home's atmosphere and coziness. Rugs often serve to tie together furniture arrangements and create a foundation upon which the rest of the interior is built," say Timo Mikkonen and Antti Rouhunkoski.

Geo wool rug – sophisticated simplicity

Geo wool rugs complement the Roots Living wool rug collectionwith new colours and a sophisticated design language. Designed by Antti Rouhunkoski, the Geo rug’s minimalist design languagebrings elegance and aesthetic clarity to interiors. The rug is available in three colours and sizes. A round wool rugalso complements the collection.

New textures for hemp rugs

Alongside the Wicker hemp rug, Timo Mikkonen’s designed Waffle hemp rugsbring new designs to the Roots Living hemp rug collectionin which the rugged material has been transformed into a new form.

Ingenious weaving creates an attractive three-dimensional texture in the Waffle rugs. The design language combines a 1950s atmosphere with contemporary minimalism. The edge details of the Waffle Line hemp rugsare designed so that the rugs fit seamlessly side by side, also enabling the creation of large rug arrangements.
