The housing fair in Oulu is open to the public until 17 August 2025. A beautiful and high-quality new residential area spreads along the shores of Hartaanselä in the beautiful Oulujoki estuary. The central themes of this year's housing fair area are promoting community and sustainable development.

Roots Living rugs and textiles made from natural materials complement the interiors in four beautifully designed houses. Explore the homes below and be inspired by Finnish architecture and high-quality interiors!

Villa Aava

House number 2

Designed by architect Juha Paananen (Arkkijussi Oy), the bright Villa Aava is a home for a family of four. The home combines high-quality architecture with a thoughtful and light interior design that runs consistently throughout the house, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

The living areas and kitchen are located on the second floor of the home. Next to the open kitchen is the living room, which is bordered by a hand-knotted white Pile Wool rug . The dense pile rug is soft and warm. The rug provides a counterbalance to the hard surfaces with its soft texture.

The bedrooms are located on the ground floor of the house. In the master bedroom , a hand-quilted Linen Square bedspread completes the plush and inviting bedding.

Hietasaaren Veisto

House number 5

Hietasaaren Veisto consists of two CLT houses, designed by Architect Takkunen. The communal nature of the site is evident in the courtyard area between the houses, which has a shared summer kitchen and garden. The interior architect of the houses is Eeva Takkunen.

The interior of the second house is complemented by Roots Living rugs. Anna Haukipuro was responsible for the interios design together with the residents. The main materials of the house, wood and red brick, are beautifully displayed in the interior. A magnificent red brick fireplace connects to the charming staircase and brings together the downstairs living areas and kitchen. A Long Pile Linen rug defines the living area, which is in the middle of the large and open space, as its own space. A lot of Finnish furniture has been used in the interior.

The ground floor of the house also features a office space, where is a round Pile Hemp rug. It makes a great pair with the red clinker floor. The round rug balances the multifaceted space and brings softness to the angular room with its organic shape.

The natural-colored Pile Hemp rug also completes the entrance to the house as a doormat.

Villa Suoja

House number 11

Villa Suoja was built as a lifelong home for a family of four. As its name suggests, the house is sheltered, as the openings are made so that the neighbors are hardly visible. The plot also borders a forest. Architect Juha Paananen was responsible for the design. Residents Ville and Saara Uusimaa wanted the warmth of wood, modern design and also technology for their dream home. For example, the home's sound system has been completed with a Genelec speaker system.

Saara Uusimaa, who also works as an interior architect, says that the home wanted to create a hazy atmosphere and avoid large material contrasts. The goal was to create a calming and grounding atmosphere, and that is conveyed as soon as you enter this beautiful brick-clad CLT house.

The hallway has been cleverly placed as a separate room to the left of the entrance, creating additional space and improving the functionality of the rooms in everyday life. The hallway is finished off with a Plain Hemp runner rug .

The interior of the living room at Villa Suoja is finished with a classic white Loop Wool rug , which complements the soft and peaceful interior created by the residents.

The upper floor of the home is reserved for rest. The three bedrooms of the house are located there. The bed in the main bedroom is made with a Polku duvet . In addition to the bedrooms, there is also a utility room upstairs, which also has a Plain Hemp runner and Waffle Linen towels .

Hietasaari Gård

House number 20

Hietasaaren Gård is a complex of four CLT houses, on the plot of which there is a common area for residents with a spacious lounge and an atmospheric sauna section. The houses were designed by Architect Takkunen. In the common area, a decorative Wicker hemp rug creates a beautiful contrast with the concrete floor.

The interior of the living room of house number 20 is tied together by a large 250x350 cm Loop Wool Melange rug . The warm tone of the rug speaks seamlessly with the red, green and muted colors found in the interior. The flat surface and subdued texture create a calm background and highlight the furniture.
